What i learned in 107 & 108

I learned a lot in both 107 and 108 about technology and how it can be applied to the modern day music world.  My first year I got a basic overview of things like Microsoft word and excel.  They really helped me relies the basic things on my desktop could be used for things like bake sales for my students and letters home to the parents. There where things I could do on the computer in these programs I could do before I started these classes that they taught anyway. Others however I didn’t know about like taking one letter and making a whole list of letters to all your students by just using certain functions I didn’t know existed. I learned things on excel that where pretty cool. Like taking rows upon rows columns upon columns of numbers and then using certain equation buttons you can make certain lines add each other or multiply two rows pretty much whatever you need to make since of a lot of information. I happened to work on excel on both semesters of 107 and 108 and learned more and more as it went. Next really notable thing just in 107, I did work with adobe Fireworks. It is similar to Microsoft paint which I am more familiar with which I used to help me navigate around the commands. I did everything with Fireworks from make pretty refrigerator drawings to making a mini flash video. That really was a fun part to see each person’s video and see what creative ideas and themes that each show invoke. Using each one of the Fireworks frames I could combine them onto I movie one by one and slowly build and edit the frame like a cartoon production. Editing and producing the movie really gives you that since of how movies are made on small scale. The next real project I would do with both classes would be working with Finale. In that program you could do many different things when it comes to writing, editing, and scanning music. First we did the basic components of composing different works and editing mistakes or adding measures as an overview to the program. Later I learned that you could scan in a piece of music then editing it all using Finale related commands. It could sometimes be really tedious doing all the marks on the notes or just entering them in. Speedy entry helped a lot (if you’re good at piano). Overall I really enjoyed learning it; it will help in the future. Lastly in my last year I worked on Garage band and Logic. They where basically programs in which you could edit, mix, and add effects to sounds that you upload to the program. In this case we mixed two songs that Mr. Clouse’s band had preformed into a single microphone. We then uploaded it from blackboard and put it onto logic and added effects from equalization to pitch enhancer. I then would take that and using iTunes burn it to a cd. In my two semesters of 107 and 108 I learned a lot of things that will help me in the future.
